THE UHURU MOVEMENT’S ATTACK ON THE AFRICAN SOCIALIST MOVEMENT (ASM)

Omali Yeshitela demonstrates childish leadership

THE attention of the leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) has been drawn to a very scurrilous article published a few days ago on the internet by Omali Yeshitela and his group against the leadership and entire membership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) in Sierra Leone and West Africa.

THE article in question contains very insulting and demeaning language fabricated to smear the character and reputation of Comrade Chernoh Alpha M. Bah, Chairman of the African Socialist Movement (ASM), the leadership of the African Socialist Movement and its entire membership. We would like to point out that this childish and unprincipled action by Omali Yeshitela and his group is not only a frontal attack on Comrade Chernoh Alpha M. Bah and the membership of the ASM. But is it fundamentally a direct assault on the credentials and great sacrifices and amazing work of the African working class and its leadership in Sierra Leone and West Africa in our struggle to overturn the social and economic contradictions imposed on our communities by neocolonialism and imperialism.

THE leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) wants it to be noted that the article in question appeared on the internet on the same day that Comrade Chernoh Alpha M. Bah arrived in Brussels, Belgium as part of an International Observer Delegation from Sierra Leone to supervise the analysis of Sierra Leone’s voter registration data ahead of the most crucial elections in the country’s history to be held in November, 2012. In this year’s election, Comrade Chernoh Alpha M. Bah and nine other comrades from the African Socialist Movement (ASM) will be running revolutionaries for parliamentary office under the banner of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). It should also be noted that the attack from Omali Yeshitela and his group commenced just as the African Socialist Movement (ASM) through the work of the ASM International Support Committee under the leadership of Comrade Ajamu Bandele has initiated an international campaign tour to mobilize world opinion about the evolving political situation in Sierra Leone and the ongoing efforts of the African working class and peasants in Sierra Leone and much of West Africa to conquer ACTUAL POLITICAL POWER. That in the effort to vilify the leadership of the ASM, Omali Yeshitela and his group unfairly attacked the character and reputation of all the forces including Matthew Willis who have expressed absolute unity with the great work and sacrifices of the African Socialist Movement (ASM).

THIS we believe is not a demonstration of matured and effective leadership on the part of the Uhuru Movement; a group which claims for itself the title of being the most-ideologically advanced segment of the African revolutionary movement. Omali Yeshitela and his Uhuru Movement has unilaterally chose to launch a media offensive against the leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) and has gone ahead to initiate a media war against our Movement in the most unprincipled terms of press warfare. And for the last couple of days, the leadership of the ASM and its entire membership has been monitoring and noting all the filthy adjectives adduced against the ASM and its leadership by Omali Yeshitela and a cross-section of white people associated with his Uhuru Movement with complete dismay and disappointment.

THEREFORE, the leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM), understanding and respecting the terms of principled engagement and believing in disciplined conduct, would like to make it categorically clear that the article in question and all its accompanying diatribes represent an official position of the Uhuru Movement and by implication an action sanctioned by Omali Yeshitela, the leader of the group.

ON this note, we would like to inform you that the leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) has contacted Omali Yeshitela in relation to the article in question with the demand that we are entitled to a response. That the African Socialist Movement (ASM) as an organization will send an official response to the Uhuru Movement on the subject of the said aticle. And that Comrade Chernoh Alpha M. Bah, being the primary subject of the said article, will also send his own official response to said article. Equally so, that Comrade Ajamu Bandele, being the leader of the International Support Committee of the African Socialist Movement (ASM), will also send an official response.

OUR demand is that Omali Yeshitela should unite that all the responses from our side will be published and given the same prominence on the Uhuru website carrying the article under discussion. This we believe will form the basis of a principled engagement that will allow the masses the opportunity to hear all sides to the story and to give them the opportunity to arrive at reasonable conclusions. A recording of the said conversation between the leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) and Omali Yeshitela to establish this understanding is available to us for public airing when the need arises. And we would like to say that we have not been able to get Omali Yeshitela to agree to this suggestion and request. To our dismay, Omali Yeshitela hung up the telephone while the conversation was in progress.

THE leadership of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) would like to use this Press Release to call on everyone to impress upon Omali Yeshitela and his group the significance of allowing a principled approach to discussing contradictions wherever and whenever they exist. We therefore demand that this Press Release and all subsequent articles responding to the attack on the African Socialist Movement (ASM) be equally published on the same website bearing the article against our Movement.

WE also call on all members of the African Socialist Movement (ASM) to refrain from making any insulting comments on the Uhuru Movement website against any member of the Uhuru Movement. We also urge members of our International Support Committee to exercise restraints in responding to the vile attacks emanating from the Uhuru Movement against their reputation and character. All responses to the said attacks should be coordinated and channeled through the official processes of the Movement. And all those within the International Support Committee should channel their response through Comrade Ajamu Bandele, our official representative in the United States of America.

SMASH IMPERIALISM!

SMASH NEO-COLONIALISM!

WE MUST WIN SOME POWER IN ORDER TO WIN ALL POWER!

  1. “THIS we believe is not a demonstration of matured and effective leadership on the part of the Uhuru Movement; a group which claims for itself the title of being the most-ideologically advanced segment of the African revolutionary movement…” You are right, Saa Famanda/ASM

  2. Chernoh’s statement is going to shed some light on what is really going on here! I could do that because I am informed about it. Chernoh’s statement calling for the UN to observe peaceful elections and to pressure the real neocolonialist in Sierra Leone to turn over the $5 million in weapons that it just purchased in the mist of increasing political repression on the ground there must be judged in the light of the history of Sierra Leone and the role that the UN has played in restoring peaceful elections in that country. Chernoh knows that the UN is an imperialist institution just like Malcolm X did when he sought to internationalize our struggle here by appealing to the UN to pressure the white colonizer in this country to stand down and end the genocide of African people in this country. How did this statement impact the neocolonialist in Sierra Leone is the question? And in his capacity as the spokesperson for the democratic front in Sierra Leone working to tear down the North/South political blocks of the APC and SLPP, what has been the response to this act to protect the people of Sierra Leone from being murdered by these bandits?

Chernoh does not stand alone in Sierra Leone. He and the African Socialist Movement are using the electoral process as a tactic to advanced the revolution in that country. The public domain to challenge the real neocolonialist. The dogma behind this analysis of is devoid of any science, no understanding of the political climate or dynamics on the ground in Sierra Leone. Many genuine revolutionaries have appealed to the UN to intervene on the peoples behalf as a tactic for disarming and isolating colonial/neocolonial regimes. You need to study how the socialist revolutionaries have historically exploited the contradictions and splits with in imperialism itself by using the UN and other imperialist institutions to put pressure on others.

Chernoh is a skilled tactician that has a consistent record of using journalism and mass organization to expose imperialism and build a revolution in West Africa. I have seen the Uhuru Movement go into colonialist institutions like city halls around this country demanding that the city government pressures the city police to change their policy and practice of brutalizing and murdering African people. This is not considered siding with the US Government it is tactfully putting pressure on one imperialist agency to put pressure on its subordinate agency through public appeal or protest!

The threat of political violence is evident and could become a reality in 0.00 seconds in Sierra Leone where forces like Chernoh and his comrades, many having been forced child soldiers during the civil war know this all too well. Right now in Tampa, Florida the police are terrorizing the community and beefing up its security for the National Republican Convention if the people appealed to city or state government institutions to appeal to the police to stand down as a tactic for reducing the risk of our people being brutalized in our neighborhoods, would that make us petty bourgeois neocolonialist? Give me a break!!!
